Pahiyas, longganisa, pansit habhab and Kamay ni Hesus – here are some of the trademarks of Lucban, a small town from the first district of Quezon.
Talking about the trademarks, Lucban is currently making a name in promulgating environmental awareness.
The zero-plastic project from the Local Government Unit was gradually implemented. It started last September 2009. At first, there were many people who disagreed with the project. “…Ganyan naman talaga ang mga Lucbanin, reklamador pero nasunod din,” Mayor Villaseňor’s secretary said.
But now, if you’ll be visiting the public market of Lucban, you’ll be seeing these scenarios – people carrying their own ‘balulang’ (native basket made of abaca), people carrying brown paper bag, and people exercising and loving the zero plastic project.
Disciplinary act and environmental awareness program is now surrounding Lucban not only for the its cleanliness but for the welfare of the people as well. Lucban also aims to be a role model to the neighboring towns in the province.
Lucban is making a difference, initiating a step ahead for changes. Let’s join Lucban, let’s make it happen!
