Buri weaving has been a prevailing source of livelihood for the town folks of Unisan. It has been supporting a lot of people’s lives and is still one of the most valued parcel of the municipality.
And to highlight the pride of Unisan, the town will showcase the ingenious and creatively-woven buri products in the upcoming Buri Festival to be held on February 15 as part of the municipal government’s foundation day.

UNISAN, Quezon, Jan. 17 (PIA) — The municipal government of Unisan will celebrate its foundation day on February 15 with Buri (a kind of reed) Festival.
Mayor Nonato E. Puache together with Unique Weavers Association, DTI-Quezon and other local government officials conceptualized the buri festival which will be presented during the foundation day.
Pablito Budoy of DTI-Quezon said the buri industry was given a boost when DTI-Quezon, Food and Agriculture Organization and International Labour Organization identified several municipalities that will be assisted in product packaging.
Unisan’s activities to promote the industry includes the following: Buri Pahiyas Contest; Trade fair for buri products including Kakaibang Pagkain (a different kind of food) and Kakaibang Produkto (a different kind of product); Blessing of Display Center located at Barangay F. de Jesus as well as blessing of the production center, and Fashion Show featuring buri products on February 8.
